Why do so many teens struggle with confidence—even when they seem “fine” on the outside?
In this powerful conversation, I’m joined by Fehintoluwa Alawonde to unpack what’s really going on beneath the surface for today’s teens—and how parents can support them in building a strong, grounded sense of identity.
Because confidence isn’t something we can force or fix. It’s something that develops through safety, connection, and self-understanding.
In this episode, we explore:
Why teen confidence is more fragile than it appears
How identity is shaped during adolescence (and what can disrupt it)
The hidden impact of pressure, comparison, and social expectations
What teens actually need from parents (it’s not what you think)
Practical ways to support your teen without pushing them away
If you’ve ever worried about your teen’s self-esteem, independence, or sense of self—this episode will give you a new lens and practical tools to show up differently.
💛 Because raising a confident teen doesn’t start with changing them…It starts with how we relate to them.
Fehintoluwa Enny is a wife, mum, health professional, youth mentor, and coach, as well as the founder of Quantum Impact Hub.
For over 15 years, she has walked alongside teenagers, creating safe spaces where they feel seen, heard, and confident in who they are becoming.
Alongside her extensive mentoring experience, she is currently advancing her formal coaching training, deepening her expertise in helping young people build clarity, resilience, and purpose. She also serves in a leadership role within her healthcare profession, where she is passionate about growth, excellence, and people development.
Through Quantum Impact Hub, Fehintoluwa partners with parents and guardians to raise emotionally intelligent, purpose driven teens who understand their identity and step boldly into their future. Seeing a young person find their voice and strength is not just her work, it is her calling.

Why do parents react to their children even when they don’t want to?
In this episode of the Masterful Parenting Podcast, Anne Alvares explains why parenting reactions often come from nervous system activation rather than conscious choice. When children push boundaries, talk back, or refuse to listen, parents can quickly shift into fight-or-flight responses that lead to yelling, frustration, and guilt.
Anne shares how childhood experiences shape parenting triggers and explains the difference between reacting and responding to your child. She also introduces a simple pause method that helps parents regulate their emotions and respond with intention instead of reacting in the heat of the moment.
If you want to stop yelling, reduce power struggles, and create a calmer relationship with your child, this episode will give you practical tools to start changing the pattern.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode
• Why parents react to their children even when they know better • How your nervous system influences your parenting responses • The connection between childhood experiences and parenting triggers • The difference between reacting and responding to your child • How the pause method can help you stay calm during difficult moments • Why emotional regulation is one of the most important parenting skills • How responding instead of reacting strengthens connection with your child
Key Takeaway
Parenting isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about learning how to pause long enough to choose a response instead of letting your nervous system take over.
When parents learn to regulate themselves first, they create a calmer home and help their children learn emotional regulation too.

Stop Calling Your Child Disrespectful: What It Really Reveals About Your Childhood
When your child talks back, rolls their eyes, or challenges you, it’s easy to label the behavior as “disrespectful.”
But what if that label says more about your unresolved childhood pain than your child’s character?
In this episode, Anne Alvares explores why the word “disrespect” is often emotionally charged and how our reactions are shaped by our own early experiences.
Drawing on the teachings of Dr. Gabor Maté, Anne explains how childhood suppression, control-based parenting, and unhealed wounds influence the way we interpret our children’s behavior.
You’ll learn:
Why “disrespect” is often a nervous system trigger
How childhood conditioning shapes our reactions
The difference between control and connection
Why labels create distance in relationships
How to respond to big emotions without shaming
The powerful shift from demanding respect to modeling it
This episode is for parents who want to break generational patterns and build emotionally safe relationships with their children.
And if this topic resonates with you, I’m inviting parents to join my 5-Day Challenge: Reactive to Relational Reboot, where I teach practical tools to help you pause instead of react and build a more connected relationship with your child.

Many parents want their children to be well-behaved, respectful, and cooperative. But what if raising a "good" and compliant child comes with hidden emotional costs?
Â
In this episode, we explore the hidden cost of compliance and why children who appear easy, obedient, or "good" on the outside may be struggling on the inside.
You’ll learn:
Why compliant children often become people-pleasers
How childhood patterns shape adult relationships
Why emotional suppression can start in childhood
The difference between obedience and connection
How to raise confident, emotionally healthy children
When children learn to disconnect from their feelings in order to please adults, they may grow up struggling with boundaries, anxiety, and self-trust.
Understanding this can transform how we parent.
If you want to build a calmer, more connected relationship with your child, this episode will help you see parenting in a new way.

I carried unresolved childhood pain into my early years of parenting without realizing it. I loved my children deeply, yet I struggled to parent relationally. I found myself easily triggered, relying on control instead of connection, and often feeling discouraged about the parent I was becoming.
Through intentional inner work, education, and self-reflection, I began to understand how my past was shaping my reactions in the present. As I healed, I grew—and my parenting transformed.
Today, I parent from a place of connection rather than control. There is more peace in our home, stronger emotional safety, and deeper, more loving relationships with my children. I’ve learned that when parents heal themselves, the entire family benefits.
Now, as a Parent Coach and Educator, I help other parents do the same.
I support parents who want to break generational patterns, reduce reactivity, and build emotionally safe, connected relationships with their children. My work focuses on helping parents understand their triggers, heal childhood wounds, improve communication, and parent with confidence and clarity.
Through coaching, education, and ongoing content, I guide parents toward becoming calm, present, and relational caregivers—without perfection, shame, or pressure. Parenting doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or isolating. With the right support, it can feel grounded, intentional, and deeply rewarding.
If you’re ready to move from survival mode to connection and create a home rooted in peace, love, and understanding, I’d be honored to support you.

Episode 120: If Not Punishment, Then What? Real Alternatives That Actually Work
Many parents are beginning to question punishment — but they’re left wondering what to replace it with.
If we don’t punish, won’t our children become disrespectful, irresponsible, or out of control?
In this episode, we unpack the fear behind removing punishment and explore practical, research-informed alternatives that build long-term skills instead of short-term compliance.
You’ll learn:
Why punishment focuses on behavior change, while children actually need skill development
Why regulation must come before correction
What “Calm is the curriculum” really means
How to use natural and logical consequences without turning them into punishment in disguise
How to teach missing skills like emotional regulation, impulse control, and problem-solving
What collaborative problem-solving sounds like in real life
How to hold firm boundaries without anger, threats, or shame
Why repair builds accountability more effectively than fear
What these approaches look like across ages — from toddlers to teens
Punishment may produce immediate compliance. But teaching produces capable, self-regulating humans.
Parenting isn’t about controlling behavior — it’s about raising children who can manage themselves.
If this episode resonates and you want support implementing these tools in your home, enrollment is now open for my 9-week Masterful Parenting cohort. We begin soon. See the link in the show notes or DM me “READY” to learn more.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “I need to be firmer,” “I need better consequences,” or “Why isn’t this working?”—this episode is for you.
So many parents come to parenting already exhausted, doing everything they were taught about discipline… and feeling like things are only getting harder. More power struggles. More yelling. More disconnection. In this episode, we gently challenge one of the most deeply ingrained beliefs many of us were raised with: that discipline is the key to raising well-adjusted kids.
Together, we explore why discipline feels so appealing when we’re overwhelmed, what traditional discipline actually teaches children beneath the surface, and why stopping behavior isn’t the same as teaching skills. You’ll learn how behavior is a form of communication—especially for teens—and why responding with control often shuts down the very growth and cooperation we’re hoping for.
We also unpack how discipline can unintentionally damage connection, why connection is the foundation for real influence, and what helps instead: relational guidance that sets limits with children, not against them. Finally, we look at the hard but freeing truth—this work isn’t about fixing kids, it’s about supporting parents and healing the parts of us that get activated in the hardest moments.
If discipline isn’t working, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means your child is asking for something deeper: understanding, regulation, and relationship. Parenting isn’t about control—it’s about connection. And when kids feel connected, real change becomes possible. If this episode resonated with you, you’re not alone. This is exactly the work we do inside the Masterful Parenting Program—helping parents move from discipline and power struggles to connection, confidence, and calm leadership. You don’t have to figure this out by yourself. Thank you for being here, and for doing the brave work of parenting differently. 💛

Do old childhood wounds show up in your parenting today?Do certain moments with your child trigger big reactions—leaving you feeling overwhelmed, reactive, or not like the parent you want to be?
You’re not alone. I’ve been there too.
I carried pain from my own childhood, and for a long time, it made parenting feel harder than it needed to be. But I learned something powerful: healing is possible—and when you begin that healing, parenting starts to feel different. You feel more energized, less reactive, more confident, and more able to truly enjoy your children.
Welcome to the Masterful Parenting Podcast. This is a space where we talk about healing your childhood wounds, building deeper connections with your children, and learning how to communicate in ways that help everyone feel heard.
You’ll also hear from special expert guests who share practical tools and insights to make parenting more supportive, intentional, and connected.
On the show, we explore topics like self-care for parents, bullying, building healthy relationships, parenting children with autism, protecting kids from cyberbullying, and so much more—because parenting doesn’t come with a manual, but support makes all the difference.
