Have you ever wondered why your child no longer tells you what's happening in their life? The answer may not be rebellion, attitude, or technology—it may be that they don't feel heard.
In this episode, we explore one of the most common and damaging relationship breakers between parents and children: not listening. Many parents are physically present but emotionally unavailable when their children speak. Interrupting, dismissing feelings, rushing to solutions, or minimizing problems can unintentionally teach children that their thoughts and emotions don't matter.
We'll discuss how active listening builds trust, why children stop communicating when they feel unheard, and practical ways to create emotional safety so your child continues to come to you throughout every stage of life.
Because children don't stop talking overnight—they stop talking after feeling unheard repeatedly.

In this episode of Masterful Parenting, we begin a powerful new series exploring the parenting myths that quietly create shame, fear, anxiety, and perfectionism in loving parents.
This episode focuses on two common myths:
ā€œGood parents don’t get triggered.ā€
ā€œIf I love my child enough, parenting should be easy.ā€
Anne explains how triggers are nervous system responses — not parenting failures — and why difficulty in parenting does not mean deficiency. Through a relational and healing-centered lens, parents are encouraged to move away from perfectionism and toward awareness, regulation, repair, and self-compassion.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
Why parenting triggers are normal
How childhood wounds can surface in parenting
Why repair matters more than perfection
How shame keeps parents stuck
Why parenting feels emotionally hard
The connection between regulation and relational parenting
How to offer yourself more compassion as a parent
This episode is a reminder that good parenting is not about never struggling — it is about staying willing to grow, repair, and reconnect.
⭐If this episode resonated with you, share it with another parent who may be silently struggling under the weight of perfectionism and shame.

Narcissism is often misunderstood—and many parents worry about whether they’re getting it ā€œright.ā€
In this episode of Masterful Parenting, we explore how certain parenting patterns can shape a child’s sense of self, sometimes contributing to narcissistic traits rooted in insecurity, disconnection, and unmet emotional needs.
This is not about blame. It’s about awareness.
Many of these patterns are subtle and often come from what we experienced in our own childhoods. When we begin to understand them, we gain the power to shift how we show up for our children.
You’ll learn the difference between healthy confidence and narcissistic traits, how both overindulgence and emotional disconnection can impact your child’s development, and what children actually need to build a secure, resilient identity.
Most importantly, this episode will guide you in how to parent with intention—balancing connection, boundaries, and emotional attunement—so your child feels deeply valued without relying on external validation.
šŸ’” Key Takeaways Narcissistic traits often develop as protection, not intention.
Children need to feel seen and accepted—not just praised or corrected
Both overindulgence and emotional disconnection can impact identity Connection, consistency, and boundaries create emotional safety
You don’t need perfect parenting—just conscious, responsive parenting
šŸ¤” Reflection Questions
Do I unintentionally tie my child’s worth to behavior or achievement?
How do I respond to my child’s emotions—do I dismiss or connect?
Am I raising my child to be impressive, or to be secure in who they are?
How comfortable am I with my child’s discomfort?
Awareness isn’t about guilt—it’s about growth. When we understand the patterns that shape our children, we can choose to parent in ways that build true confidence, connection, and emotional security. **************************************************************************************** Anne Alvares is a parent coach, author, educator, and the founder of the Masterful Parenting Program, known for helping families build stronger, healthier relationships through relational parenting and healing from childhood wounds.

What really happens to a child when they are sent away to boarding school?
In this powerful and eye-opening conversation, I’m joined by trauma-informed Well-Being & Relationship Coach Sorel Pindar, who shares both her professional expertise and lived experience of spending seven years in boarding school.
Together, we unpack the hidden emotional impact of early separation and how it shapes identity, coping mechanisms, and adult relationships.
In this episode, we explore:
✨ The 3 biggest challenges boarding school creates for children
Early emotional detachment and suppressed attachment needs
Development of independence rooted in survival, not security
Difficulty processing emotions in a safe, supported way

She has spent 15+ years supporting teens and their parents, giving her deep insight into emotional development and adolescent challenges.

Her Story & Approach
Anne’s coaching is shaped by her personal healing journey—she grew up experiencing childhood pain, including abuse, controlling parenting, and being parentified. This inspired her to heal those patterns and not repeat them with her own children.

Anne specializes in:
Relational Parenting: Prioritizing connection and understanding over control.
Healing from childhood pain so parents don’t unconsciously repeat old patterns.
Practical strategies to strengthen communication and connection with children.

Rather than simple tips or behavior modification, Anne’s approach blends emotional understanding, self-awareness, and healing, helping parents not just change behavior, but transform relationships.

Ā Masterful Parenting

Does the pain from your childhood get in the way of you becoming the parent you want to be? Do you get triggered by what your child says and become over reactive and at times irrational. You are not alone, believe me. I too have carried pain from my childhood and I have struggled to be the parent I wanted to be. And parenting can be difficult at times. But what if I told you that there's a way to heal from your childhood pain, feel more energized, less reactive, more confident, and truly enjoy your children.

In the Masterful Parenting Program that runs for 8 weeks, I will help you become the parent you want to be. You will know how to heal from your own childhood, become more self-aware, learn how to connect better, and ways to communicate that touches your child's heart and ultimately have a healthy relationship with your child. I have helped many parents, as a high school counsellor, and I am also the mother of two boys, ages 23 and 13. My healing has come from by parenting and yours can, too.

If you want to heal, feel good about your parenting, less tired, more connected, and more appreciated by your kids, message me for a free 30 minute helping session and we will make a plan!

I truly believe parents can heal and raise healthy children and in doing this we will change the world. Let's do this!
